Anzac Day, morning. ” Lest We Forget.” We are so privileged to have the freedom to be travelling the outback of WA . We are doing part of the Golden Quest Discovery Trail. Some very interesting old gold mining towns along the way. Went into Niagara Dam, built in 1897, still holds water. Got talking to a couple of gold prospectors, it’s hard not to get bitten by the gold bug, in these ghost towns. Think the bug has bitten Chris. After looking over our metal detector and giving Chris a few tips, we wished our, rather hairy, bushy friends good luck, and went on to the town of Kookynie. Not quite a deserted place, as there is a couple of houses and 20 residents there. Back onto the main road and still heading north, came across a lookout, with views over the plains, so I climbed up, over very interesting rock formations to take a look. The photos made the effort worthwhile. Then went on through Leonora, not far from Wiluna. A lot happening in Wiluna, it is very remote, but being on the Goldfields Hwy, they have put in an RV stop recently and signs of interest to encourage people to come this way. Doing up buildings and trying to get the highway sealed . we’ll know what it’s like tomorrow, but for now we’re all alone in another outback town. and what a beautiful sunset. As the sun goes down “We Will Remember Them.”
